Cambridge Iron and Metal

Just east of New Concord on Route 40 is Cambridge Iron and Metal, where mountains of metal rise high out of the dust.  It's a graveyard for cars, vans, jeeps, refrigerators, wire, steel doors, and anything else that can be sold for scrap, melted down, and made into something else. Lush green trees surround the scrapyard, and a creek meanders alongside its eastern edge.

Baker's Motel

Built in 1937, Baker's Motel is one of the oldest motels still operating on Route 40.  Owned by Gary and Teresa Golden since 1980, the motel has many of its original features, including real keys for the doors instead of electronic key cards.  All kinds of travelers have found their way to Baker's: wrestlers, cross-country walkers, biker gangs, and Europeans.  "We love the business," said Gary. "You're always meeting different people, and there's always something different happening."
